Actually, one could argue that the south did win the civil war, particularly after reconstruction ended in 1877 when Jim
Crow ( which was political,cultural and economic slavery) for a century until the mid 1960s with the ratification of the civil rights act in 1964 followed by the voting rights act of 1965.
