The indisputable fact is that this is a very CRUCIAL election. In fact, it is probably the most consequential election since the Civil War! Democracy is on the ballot! LITERALLY! That is not a dramatic overstatement! As someone who is a historian by training, I have studied historical trends. Do I expect Vice President Harris to deliver economic miracles to Black , Latino and other communities of color? Not necessarily, but I do believe that she will do what she can to help address the problems , issues and challenges that plague such communities.

That being said, one thing I know for sure is that Donald Trump and his group of far right wing sycophants most certainly WILL NOT! Anyone who has had the opportunity to read Project 2025 should be able to understand such a reality! Trump and his band of fascist ideologues have openly expressed their desire to overthrow democracy as we know it and return to the overtly racist, sexist, misogynistic, xenophobic ,anti Semitic etc. of the mid 19th century. In fact, the Jim Crow era of the mid 20th century was too benign for these people! If you thought Trump’s first term was problematic, you can imagine (or most of us do not want to) how repressive his second term would be free of any safeguards, having his loyal foot soldiers and other assorted yes men at his beck and call doing everything they can in an frantic effort to please their “master.!”

Thus, as earlier reiterated, while the political climate at the present ,is far from utopian, one thing is for certain. If Donald Trump is allowed to return to the White House, democracy, no matter how problematic as we have known it, will be eradicated and the Orwellian, right wing regime that Trump and his goons will implement will make our current situation look like a Sunday afternoon picnic.

Thus based on the aforementioned realities, I intend to cast my ballot for Vice President Harris and all of you who are looking for “purity litmus tests” had better come to the rapid reality that politics is about pragmatism and reality! PERIOD!
